The Rector and his family plan to be away much of the next 2 weeks. Thanks to Archdeacon Stockall and our Layreaders, our Sunday and weekday worship schedule will remain unchanged.
In the event of a pastoral emergency, please call either of the Church Wardens: Gerry Clayton 389-1602 or Ralph Black 382-2226. In the mornings, you can also call Debbie Ritchie at the Church office.

Many thanks to Mr. Keith Scott who has assisted in our worship at 10 A.M. as the organist over the past month. We appreciate the gift of music you have shared with us, Keith – thank you for a job well done! May the Lord Whom we praise be glorified in our worship, and may He bring you back again to us next summer.

The Rector's Corner
Last week I mentioned a point that was presented many years ago at a conference promoting youth ministry. Very simply, it was an idea expressed by one of the speakers: that young people copy faith from adults they love and respect. This week, let's consider the other side of that coin. As I mentioned last Sunday, the VanBuskirks were away at Camp Brookwood in Carleton County (near Florenceville) for Senior Teen Camp (15-17 year olds) from July 26-31. My job was to be the Chaplain -- to lead the Morning and Evening Services (with a talk in the evening), as well as teach two sessions of Christian Education each morning. (The afternoons, although 'free', were spent visiting around the camp and tackling some maintenance work.) It was an intense week with very long days, but it was also wonderful, one that our family will cherish simply because we were there together.
In any case, as part of the afternoon program on two occasions, I was invited to participate in a "Question and Answer Period". The youth tossed their written questions into a basket and the Assistant Director and I read them out loud and did our best to respond to them. Well, what incredible questions! Each one was posed with an earnest desire to know what is good and right and true and holy. And each one came from a heart that is seeking the Lord's will in difficult situations. How inspiring! Suddenly I was reminded that, although young people copy the faith of adults, adults have a great deal to learn from young people. Through their honesty and zeal, we can all be refreshed and encouraged, especially as our physical energy wanes and the level of our scepticism increases.
Through these young people, I am reminded of Jesus' words written by St. Matthew: "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven". (18.3) May our Blessed Lord help us to recapture and to be renewed in this simple, child-like faith -- so that through us others may be drawn to Him Who is the Source and End of all our happiness.

For the record, here are some of the questions from 'Question and Answer Period':
Ø      Is incest sin? Will God hate me?
Ø      If you’re on meds for depression (suicide), do you believe God meant for someone to be on them?
Ø      Do you think that we will be judged for choices we make in our dreams? Does this concept apply to video games?
Ø      If I want to get more self-control, how should I do it? Should I put myself I situations to make my self-control stronger, or stay away from places where I would be in those situations completely?
Ø      This year, I experienced something that was really horrible. Did God mean to hurt me?
Ø      The friends that I have at school aren’t really religious…Most of the time they are saying inappropriate jokes. I’ve also learned about stuff that they have done/ or still do, and there are things that I believe they should not do. I think that now, I can honestly say that I’ve ‘outgrown’ these friends, because I’m not as happy as I used to be a few years ago. So this year I want to make new friends with similar beliefs. Are my reasons to make new friends justified?
Ø      Where do rainbows come from?
Ø      How do you deal with losing someone, like your father, to cancer?
Ø      How do I get images out of my head?
Ø      I’ve never been comfortable with my body, but I’ve been working on it, and talking it out with God for the past year. It’s gotten a lot better but it can never seem to fully leave my thoughts. Is there a way to fix this, or a certain thing to pray?

We give thanks for the safe arrival of Chanelle Noelle LeBlanc, the daughter of Danny and Nancy and the grand-daughter of Noel and Shirley Eustace…and the little sister of Danielle. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!

Please pray for Mike and Pam Ogburn as they prepare to move to Ontario, (near Belleville) from their home in Riverview on Friday August 14th. We give thanks to God for our fellowship and life together at St. George’s; and there is great consolation knowing that although we shall be physically separated, we shall remain united as brothers and sisters in Christ by the grace of God the Holy Spirit. As the post-Communion prayer says, “We are living members of his mystical body, which is the blessed company of all faithful people.”(p. 85) God bless you Mike and Pam, and thank you for all that you have done to support the Lord’s work at St. George’s. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be always with you.

RECTOR'S CORNER
At the last blood donor clinic that I attended, I was amazed to see five adults with their children. Beside me, there was a father with a little boy and a little girl. They stood next to him, watching carefully and giving him continuous updates on the progress of his donation. Across from me, a 12 or 13 year old girl sat on the edge of her mother’s bed, chatting away while the blood was collected. I could tell that, in both cases, the children were very proud of their parents. Think of it: many children cry at the sight of blood – it is the thing that can send them into hysterics. And here they were, surrounded by needles and bags of blood! Yet all was calm because they were being shown a different way- the way of charity and peace, rather than the way of fear.
I remember attending a conference many years ago about youth ministry. The leader was very good in helping us to understand this one thing: ‘Children copy faith’. One of his handouts explained this in these words: “Young adolescents’ parents and families remain of primary importance in setting values and giving affection. In addition, adults other than parents have an effect on the lives of young adolescents, who are so eager to understand the possibilities of adulthood. Young adolescents need relationships with adults who are willing to share their own experiences, views, values and feelings with young people. These adults will also encourage young adolescents to develop positive relationships with peers.”
There is no ‘rocket-science’ here. This is very basic stuff – the stuff of honesty, patience and love. If we want the very best for our young people we need to spend quality time listening to them, sharing with them, and showing them. I am so thankful that some of you are doing this with the youth at St. George’s. Please continue! What does it cost but a little bit of time? “Hi! My name is _______, what’s yours?” Of course, this is our Lord’s example to us, for He took the children up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them. (St. Mark 10:16).

This Wednesday, August 5th the project coordinator from Canada World Youth  will be in the hall to have a presentation for anyone interested in last years Canada- Ghana exchange. As you know, Ghana is in the Diocese of Ho which is our Companion Diocese. The youth who met at St. George’s last year left in December to go to Ghana for 3 months. It should prove to be an interesting presentation, enabling us to see firsthand some of the benefits from our generosity to another mission field. Please join us if you are able.
