Almighty and everlasting God, who as on this night didst cause Thine only begotten Son to be born of the blessed and glorious ever Virgin Mary for our salvation: vouchsafe, we beseech thee, so to hallow and bless this Crib, wherein are shown forth the wonders of that Sacred Birth; that all those who, beholding the same, shall ponder and adore the mystery of His Holy Incarnation, may be filled with thy heavenly benediction unto life eternal.
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

R/ Thou didst not abhor the Virgin’s womb.
Let us pray:
For the grace of God has dawned upon the world with healing for all mankind; and by it we are disciplined to renounce godless ways and worldly desires, and to live a life of temperance, honesty, and godliness in the present age, looking forward to the happyfulfillment of our hope when the splendor of our great God and Saviour ChristJesus will appear. He it is who sacrificed Himself for us, to set us free from all wickedness and to make us a pure people marked out for his own, eager to do good.(Titus 2 v.11-14)
V/ The Lord be With You
R/ And With Thy Spirit
Let us pray:
O God who by the birth of thy Son didst will to found a new race of men and to raise us from earth to heaven, hearken to the prayers of us who worship thee, that we who behold the light that has shone out of darkness may be accounted worthy to enjoy the vision of thy eternal beauty. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen
Station at the Chancel Steps
V/ Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord
R/ God is the Lord who has showed us light.
Let your bearing toward one another arise out of your life in Christ Jesus. For the divine nature was His from the first; yet He did not think to snatch at equality with God, but made Himself nothing, assuming the nature of a slave. Bearing the human likeness, revealed in a human shape, He humbled Himself, and in obedience accepted even death - death on a cross. Therefore God raised Him to the heights and bestowed on Him the Name above all Names, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow - in heaven, on earth, and in the depths - and every tongue confess, “Jesus Christ is Lord”, to the glory of God the Father.
(Philippians 2:5-11)
V/ The Lord be With You
R/ And With Thy Spirit
Let us pray:
Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that we who are held in bondage by the old yoke of sin, may be set free by the new birth in the flesh of thy only begotten Son: through the same thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ who liveth and reigneth with the Father and the Holy Spirit ever one God, world without end. The Rector’s Corner
In one way, I hesitate to write what shall follow in this installment of the Rector’s Corner. Why? Because the Lord Jesus said, “When you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men…But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms might be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you.” (St. Matthew 6:2-4) On the other hand, it is important for people to know. It is important that an account be published – if for no other reason that the donors know where their money went. So, may it please the Lord that the listing below is made only for that purpose. May none of us use it to brag or boast of ourselves. All glory be to God from Whom all things come and from Whom all blessing flow. That, really, is the key. All that we are, and all that we have, is by God’s grace. Therefore, we should give freely in return. As Jesus said:
“Freely ye have received, freely give”. ( St. Matthew 10:8)
Reflecting on that principle, Archbishop William Temple (1881- 1944) said, “The Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members.”
So then, with the intention of true humility (after the manner of God’s Great Gift to us in Christ); and, at the request of the Parish Vestry; and, for the purposes of giving an account, here is a list of our parish’s outreach in 2009:
Karing Kitchen – Monthly food donations and $1,000.00 in December
Re Connect Hygiene Bags –200 of these bags were made by the Willing Workers at the average cost of $15.00.
Ghana Project –In conjunction with Canada World Youthto assist with .a sports programin Ghana - $175.00.
Operation Christmas Child – 23boxes were filled and the money donated to cover the expense of shipping.
1stMonctonSt. George’s Beavers, Cubs and Scouts- $1,040 in sponsorship of children
Edith Cavell Music Club: In association with the Willing Workers the music program ran for 12 weeks (with minimal cost of honorarium for 2 volunteers) and instruments were rented for the children’s use.
Christmas Outreach (In conjunction with various groups and individuals) We assisted 9 families, gave stockings to 24 community friends and gave a gift to 83 shut-ins.
Primates World Relief and Development Fund – Monthly gifts though envelope-giving totaling approximately $1,700.00 per year.
Community Dinners – Each month we feed an average of 200 people with the annual budget of $6,000.00 ($500 per meal).
Groceries – Weekly donated to ReConnect fro your generosity.
Blankets – Many hand made and other donated blankets are gifted to people in need in the community.
Knitting – Mittens, hats and sweaters are knit and donated.
Summer Camps – 5 children and 1 adults were sponsored to the DiocesanChoir School and 11 children were sponsored to the St. Michael’s Conference.
Donations to families and individuals, through the year, with various needs, of approximately $8,347.15.
Many thanks to our organist, choir and musicians who have assisted in lifting our spirits in worship at both Services this evening. May the Blessed and Glorious Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Ghost be praised!
On this holy night, just a note of appreciation to all those who have prepared the Church so beautifully for the Christmas Season. Also, thank you to those who, throughout the year, have contributed to our worship and service: to the Altar Guild; to our weekly flower arranger and others for their gifts on special occasions; our Layreaders; counters; sidespeople; our organist and choir; and our Wardens. May all of our efforts be to the glory of God.
Our Annual Meeting date is set for February 8th at 7 P.M. To this end, would you please turn your annual reports in to the office as soon in the New Year as possible.
As you leave the Church tonight please remember that the Christmas Season is just begun. Contrary to our culture’s commercial season, the Church’s celebration of Christ’s birth runs for 12 days. So, let us wish one another a Merry Christmas until January 5th. We’ve only just begun!

The Rector’s Corner
(Taken from 5 Minutes with John Pearce)
“Why was there a Christmas?”
As we look at the world, we see suffering and death. And we sigh, “If there is a Creator, how could He allow this to happen? Also, if He loves us, would He not do something about it?” The answer to both of these questions is “yes, He has done something about it.”
The Bible tells us “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Someone put these words into a verse.
“FOR GOD, the Lord of earth and Heaven,
SO LOVED and longed to see forgiven
THE WORLD, in sin and pleasure mad,
THAT HE GAVE the greatest Gift He had –
HIS ONLY SON to take our place,
THAT WHOSOEVER – O what grace-
BELIEVETH, placing simple trust
IN HIM, the Righteous and the Just,
SHOULD NOT PERISH, lost in sin,
BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE in Him.”
Our Creator, as a Loving Father, could not stand by and watch us suffering. His love drew Him down to the earth to save us. (Matthew 1:21)
So Christmas was:
A LOGICAL NECESSITY FOR GOD. For love cannot be separated from its loved one especially when that loved one is suffering. A mother cannot be separated from her hungry child, nor a father stand by when his child is drowning in a stormy lake. In fact, if Jesus had not come to earth, we might well ask the question “Why?”
A COMFORTING REVELATION FOR US. Other religions teach people to seek God – in order to try to discover Him. And that results in weird representations of Him. But Christianity teaches us that God seeks us – and reveals Himself. This results in a clear and accurate understanding of Him. So God was manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). And that is why Jesus declared ‘he that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9)
This leads us to the next question:
HOW WOULD GOD COME TO EARTH?
In order to answer this, let’s take a quick look at the world. I have four levels of beings. To illustrate them I shall use objects beginning with the letter “C”.
Inorganic, such as Copper. This is the lowest level of any being, and is simply a volume of matter.
Organic, such as Carrots. This is the next higher level. In it is matter (like Copper), and also the ability to grow. So it is one stage up.
Animals, such as Cats. This is the next higher level. In it is matter (like Copper) and growth (like Carrots) and choice (like Cats), and also the principle of a soul.
Human, such as Children. This is the highest level. In it is matter (like Copper) and growth (like Carrots) and choice (like Cats), and also the principle of a soul.
So humankind contains all the principles of the other levels of being. It is the apex of creation. Because of this, it best enables God to express Himself to the world. And that is the form in which He chose to come to the earth.
The next question is:
WHEN WOULD GOD COME?
And the answer is “He would come when He had prepared the world.” And He did that in stages:
1.He chose a certain People (the Jews) to whom to show Himself (described in Genesis 17). And He trained and taught them in the ways and words recorded in the rest of the Old Testament.
2.He selected certain individuals as Prophets, and told them that He was coming to earth, and they in turn told the people that He was coming (as in Isaiah 7:14 and 53:1,3,7,12 and in Micah 5:2).
3.He fashioned the Greek language to be spread and used over the known world (like English in the modern world). It was a universal means of communication. Therefore the news of His coming could be heard and understood.
4.He developed writing, so that the news of His coming would be preserved.
5.He caused roads to be built, especially by the Romans – so that the news of His coming could be taken throughout the civilized world.
6.He chose a certain woman, the Blessed Virgin Mary, to be the mother for Himself on earth.
The next question is:
WHERE WOULD GOD COME?
He came to an oppressed nation, to a poor family, in an out-of-the-way village, in one of its worst buildings, in the smallest form possible. He came as a baby in the year 1.
The apostle Paul says He “was made in the likeness of men” and “humbled Himself” Philippians 2: 7, 8).
How would you like to be a worm?
“That lowering of yourself would be no greater, in fact much less, than the lowering which Jesus experienced when He became a man.”
So Jesus didn’t come here on stilts. He came in on the ground floor – sharing our temptations and sufferings and loneliness and death.
And because of this fact He understands us. He sympathizes with our feelings of rejection and weakness. He too has been at the bottom of the heap. Picture that scene:
“O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by:
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
are met in thee tonight.”
Yes, the “fears” of the past with all its sin, and the “hopes” of the future with our God having come to help us, were met in Bethlehem that night. That was called the INCARNATION – the “being made flesh” of God. It was the Greatest Miracle the world had ever seen. And the coming of God to where were are happened for only one reason – that we might go to where He is!
And that opens up the last question:
FOR WHOM WOULD GOD COME?
It’s not enough to say that He came just for the people at that time, or for humanity as a whole. He came, as John says, for “as many as received Him” (John 1:12). That is, He came for each person who would open his or her heart to Him, and believe in Him.
Have you done that? That is the way to make the Christmas event complete for yourself today! So why not pray?:
“O Holy Child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in,
Be born in us today.
We hear the heavenly angels
the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel!”
Would you like to go Christmas Caroling around our parish neighborhood?
